WINTER PREPAREDNESS FOR THE COMMUNITY OF FOSTER PARK

The Community of Foster Park (also known as Camp Chaffee) is a small hillside neighborhood located west of Highway 33 along the Coyote Creek stream corridor.

Debris flows and increased sedimentation within the Coyote Creek stream channel from previous storm events, including the series of winter storms in January and February 2023, has exacerbated the potential for streambank flooding issues to impact this neighborhood. Sediment buildup has caused the base of the creek bed to rise, reducing its capacity to channel water. This makes future streambank flooding more likely. Any amount of high-intensity rainfall may result in inclement conditions, especially for homes in direct proximity to Coyote Creek. Additionally, as a result of the rise in the creek bed, a low-water crossing along Camp Chaffee Road, has remained impassable since early 2023.

Due to its unique access constraints and heightened risk for flooding issues and debris flows, evacuations may be issued for this area in preparation for a storm or resulting from a series of storms. These notifications are issued with careful consideration. If you choose to remain against any public safety recommendations that are issued, make sure you are prepared with non-perishable food, water and supplies in case of prolonged isolation.
